You might be wondering… why is a college sorority girl choosing to give up one of her last summers of freedom to go to Indonesia and Thailand? Well, honestly I can’t really give you a clear answer besides the fact that I have felt called by the Lord to this mission and what He says, I do! I have been on two mission trips before- one to El Salvador and one to Uganda. Both of those mission trips have been nothing short of life-changing. Anyone who has heard me talk about my mission trips knows that there is nothing I love more in the world, and I could just go on and on about how everyone should do a mission trip at some point in their life.
Going on mission trips has opened my eyes to the Lord’s true purpose for me. With my nursing degree, I hope to be able to do International Aid and Mission nursing, providing medical attention with God’s help and guidance. And I would never know that was my calling if it weren’t for my previous trips! I feel closest to God when I am on a mission trip, serving Him, and my faith becomes that much stronger and that much more of a firm foundation when I am physically being the Lord’s hands and feet.
So, to answer the question of “why?”, my “why” is because the Lord told me so! Because He has something so much bigger for my future planned than just a regular summer. While the thought of leaving my home and my friends and family for two whole months and being in a completely foreign country is slightly (very) terrifying to me, I have full faith in the Lord that this trip will be exactly what I need.
